BAYER LOOKING FOR ANIMAL CROONERS

Germany-based Bayer Inc. is looking for the canine and feline versions of Pavarotti. The company's animal health division launched a North American contest this week looking for dogs or cats that can sing. Participants are asked to send in a videotape of their singing pet to Bayer before Aug. 7. In Canada, Bayer will also hold auditions in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. Two Canadian pets and 10 U.S. winners will be flown to New York to compete in the finals in September for the title of North America's Best Singing Pet. The winner will receive a session at a recording studio and will be flown to Los Angels for an advertising photo shoot. In Canada, the contest will be promoted using radio ads and public relations. The radio ads will be created by individual radio stations, while the media buy and PR will be done by Edelman Public Relations Canada of Toronto. The contest is part of a promotion for Bayer's Advantage flea control medication. Advantage is a flea control medication that has been on the North American market for a year and is available only through veterinarians. To use Advantage, pet owners place a small drop of the drug on the animal's back. The movement of the animal distributes the medication throughout the animals body. Bayer says Advantage will prevent further infestation for up to four weeks.
