CHUM TO LAUNCH GROWN UPS MUSIC STATION
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based CHUM Ltd. has lost its patience with the cable industry. The company plans to launch its MuchMoreMusic station in September even if cable operators have to bump some U.S. specialty channels to make room for it. The station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, but cable companies haven't found space, or don't have enough space for the channel. CHUM is working towards getting cable operators to carry the channel. MuchMoreMusic is a 24-hour music video channel targeting the 35 to 54-year-old age group. It will feature adult contemporary, light rock, classic hits, soul, rhythm and blues, reggae, jazz and new age music. CHUM says the station will fill the gap between MuchMusic, which is geared to teenagers and Country Music Television.
