WINDOWS 98 ON ITS WAY

U.S.-based Microsoft Corp. is gearing up for the launch of its newest operating system called Windows 98, which will be available in June in North America. Microsoft says the system has improved performance, reliability and ease of use. Windows 98 averages 36% faster than its predecessor Windows 95, and provides users with an average of 28% more disk space through more efficient storage of data on the hard drive. Windows 98 makes it quicker and easier to navigate around the Internet and there is also an online help system that provides access to information when encountering problems. The system features a Windows Update, which is a centralized Web-based resource site that allows registered users to keep their PCs running at their best with the latest drivers and system updates. In addition, Windows 98 provides DVD and television broadcast capabilities, allowing a PC with a TV tuner card to receive and display TV and other data distributed over broadcast networks. In Canada, Microsoft is still deciding on its advertising plans for the operating system. Advertising will be created by Communiqué, while PR is done by Hill & Knowlton, both of Toronto.
