PEOPLE PREFER BETTING ON VACATION

Casino destinations are the most popular places to go on weekend holidays, according to a survey of travel agents in Canada by Carlson Wagonlit Travel. Casinos were followed by ocean/lakeside resorts, big cities, theme parks, mountain regions, cruises, historic/cultural sites and national parks. Sixty-seven per cent of the travel agents surveyed said they are seeing an increase in weekend travel bookings. Thirty-five per cent said summer was the preferred season to take weekend trips, followed by spring, then fall and winter. About 20% of the agents' clients have booked weekend getaways in the past year. Of that number, half of them travel 240 to 805 kilometres, while the other half went to places more than 805 kilometres away. Fifty-seven per cent of the respondents said they prefer to travel with their spouses or significant others, while 33% would rather travel alone. Five per cent prefer to go with friends or family.
