FONOROLA TO CHANGE NAME
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based Fonorola will change its name by the end of the year and will launch a contest in May to let consumers choose the new name. The telecommunications company is changing its name because U.S.-based Motorola has started legal proceedings against Fonorola in the U.S. In that country, a business name cannot rhyme with another business name. To avoid having one name in the U.S. and another in Canada, Fonorola decided to change its name worldwide. Fonorola customers can enter the renaming contest by filling out a coupon that will be sent to them. Two winners will be chosen in a random draw. They will have a choice of winning a trip for two to Banff, Alberta or $5,000. The contest will be promoted using newspaper ads created by Allard Communications of Montreal. Fonorola has switching centres in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Buffalo and Seattle. Its U.S. subsidiary, Fonorola Corp. operates as an international reseller and facilities-based carrier in the U.S.
