IBM OFFERS MORE EXTENDS THINKPAD LINE

U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. added three new models to its Thinkpad line of notebook computers this week. Available in North America, the new machines are called the 385XD, 380XD and the 310ED. The 385XD and the 380XD feature a Pentium 266 MHz or 233 MHz, 12.1-inch color monitors and 32MB of standard memory. A 56K PC Card modem is standard on the 385XD, and available as an option on the 380XD. The 310ED uses a 166 MHz processor with MMX technology, 32MB of standard memory and a 12.1-inch color display. The new machines are suitable for consumers and small businesses. Until May 15, IBM is offering a $150 rebate on Thinkpad 310, 380 and 385 models, as well as on PC300 GL and PL desktops, monitors and all options by IBM products. Customers who enhance their systems with such things as more memory, bigger monitors or network cards will receive a $50 rebate when they purchase a minimum of $200 of IBM options or an IBM monitor with their system.
Separately, IBM will expand its Aptiva line of desktop computers later this month with the launch of its Aptiva E76. The machine features a 300 MHz Pentium II processor, 64 MB of RAM and an 8 gigabyte hard drive, 24X-max CD-ROM drive and a K56 Flex modem.
