MEN DOLE OUT MORE CASH THEIR VALENTINE

Men spend more money on Valentine gifts than women, according to a study done by the International Mass Retail Association of Arlington, Virginia. Men spend an average of $119 on gifts, primarily for their wives and girlfriends, while women spend an average of $56, mainly on their children and husbands. Thirty-eight per cent of men will give flowers, while 23% will send candy and 17.6% will buy cards. Candy is more popular for women, with 28% of them purchasing it for Valentine's gifts. Twenty-six per cent will buy cards and only 8% will give flowers. This may be due to the fact that women gives Valentine gifts to their children, grandchildren and parents, as well as their boyfriends and husbands. Men are more likely to shop at specialty shops for Valentine gifts, while women will likely shop at mass retailers.
