JAPAN REPORTS RECORD AD BILLINGS
By Adnews Staff
Japan's advertising billings hit an all-time high last year, rising to $48 billion(US). This is a 3.5% increase from 1996. Competition among automakers, as well as increased spending by the telecommunication and information technology sectors are the main reasons for the increase. Japan's three biggest ad agencies reported record billings for the year. Dentsu Inc. reported total billings of $10.64 billion, a 6.2% jump over 1996. Hakuhodo posted $5.68 billion of total billings, a 7.3% rise over the year before.
