CINEPLEX DROPS PRICES

Toronto-based Cineplex Odeon Corp. has lowered its ticket prices at three more theatres. Ticket prices have been dropped by 25% in a theatre in Kanata and Sudbury, Ont., as well as in Winnipeg. In a Regina theatre, ticket prices have been reduced by 75%. The move was made to stimulate more customers to those theatres, marketing and communications executive vice-president Howard Lichtman told Adnews this week. Late last year, Cineplex reduced ticket prices at six theatre across Canada and is looking at price reductions at other theatres in the near future. The discount prices are being promoted using print ads created in-house. Since June 1996, Cineplex has opened 27 new theatres and refurbished 14 locations. In 1997 alone, 17 new locations were opened across Canada and the U.S. Cineplex plans to open 26 theatres in North America by spring, 1999. The price reductions are available only in the older locations.
