TRUCKS TO BOOST AUTO SALES

Light truck sales will boost Canadian auto sales to a ten-year high of 1.44 million units this year, according to Scotiabank's latest Canadian Auto Report. Light truck purchases will reach 680,000 trucks, with sport utility vehicles leading the way. In addition, car sales will increase 3.5%. The number of young adults driving will increase by 290,000 in 1998, compared to an average annual increase of 220,000. Automakers will also hold the line on car prices by taking advantage of lower assembly costs.
