ROYAL CANADIAN MINT CELEBRATES CHINESE NEW YEAR
By Adnews Staff
The Royal Canadian Mint is commemorating the Chinese Year of the Tiger with the release of its new sterling silver coin. The coin, which became available earlier this month, is a $15 coin and the first in a new twelve year series based on the symbols of the Chinese lunar calendar. The Year of the Tiger coin features an octagonal 24 karat gold covered cameo depicting the tiger. In each year of the series, the design of the cameo will change to depict the animal for the year of issue. The twelve animals of the Chinese calendar will appear around the circumference of the reverse of the coin. The Chinese New Year falls on Jan. 28. The coins are being promoted using ads in Chinese newspapers. The ads were created by Sun Venture of Toronto.
