EDITOR RESIGNS FOR ADVERTISER PROTEST

The editor of New Woman magazine in Australia has resigned after advertisers complained that the publication shouldn't be promoting fat women. New Woman recently published a Big Issue and featured model Emme Aronson, who wears a size 16, on the cover. The issue was followed by No Diet Day last May. Advertisers said it would be foolish to promote their wares in a magazine with large or unattractive women. The advertisers in New Woman promote cosmetics, fashion and fitness products. After the Big Issue, editor-in-chief Gay Bryant said the magazine should publish more articles about finding a man and keeping him. When New Women was launched eight years ago by Murdoch Magazines, the company said the magazine would challenge the traditional mix of diet, man-catching and beauty tip articles.
