NEC BUNDLES OFFICE 97 WITH NEW NOTEBOOKS

U.S-based NEC Corp. launched a new line of Versa notebook computers this week to the North American market that have Microsoft's Office 97 Small Business software suite bundled with them. Called the Versa 2700 series, the line consists of three models that feature either a 2.1 gigabyte hard drive, a 3.2 gigabyte hard drive or a 4 gigabyte hard drive, as well as either a 233 MHz, 199MHz or 133 MHz Pentium processor. Other features include an all-in-one design incorporating 20X or 16X CD-ROM drives and a 12.1-inch color monitor offering 800 X 600 resolution. The Microsoft Office 97 Small Business software suite features Excel 97 to create spreadsheets; Publisher 97, to create publications online and in-print and Outlook 97, for the management of e-mail, calendars, tasks and information sharing. The Small Business Financial Manager 97 allows users to analyze and modify accounting data. Expedia Streets 98 helps users find addresses for more than six million miles of U.S. roads and 150,000 cities and small towns. In Canada, the new Versa notebook computers will be incorporated into print ads already running for all of NEC's notebook computers. The campaign has been running since August. It was created by Hampel Stefanides of New York, while The Cohen Group of Toronto did the media buy.
