CELEBRATION LOOKING FOR AD AGENCY

The United Jewish Appeal Federation is celebrating Israel's 50th birthday with a year-long bash in Toronto, and is looking for an agency to help promote the bash, communications director Howard English told Adnews last week. Currently the organization is looking at two agencies but is open to other proposals. The United Jewish Appeal Federation hired The Communications Group in September to handle PR. The agency won the business after a competition with four other agencies because of its knowledge of the Jewish community and its experience with non-profit groups, English said. The party will begin in December with a Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony. Throughout 1998 there will be celebrations such as a fashion show, an Independence Day celebration, and Israel Festival and an Israel showcase featuring exhibits reflecting Israel's contributions to history, the arts and business.

This is a busy time for The Communications Group. The agency is also handling PR and advertising for a fundraising concert for the Temple Sinai Brotherhood of Toronto. The concert will feature cellist Ofra Harnoy. In addition, The Communications Group is handling PR for Make-A-Will week being held from Nov. 17 to 23. Taylor Ledenheim of Toronto is created ads for the event. The week is being organized by the Canadian Bar Association and The Law Society of Upper Canada.
