CHINA BANS TV BOOZE ADS
By Adnews Staff
China Central Television of Beijing has banned liquor ads during the peak prime time viewing period from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The ban also includes corporate image campaigns for liquor producers. Booze advertising has been the target of public criticism because some say liquor production consumes too much grain and the product has harmful effects. CCTV's move comes at a time when liquor ads are prevalent and have caused criticism from the public and news media. Last year, the Quinchi Distillery in East China won the bidding for the annual auction for advertising rights during prime time for an entire year. The company has won the bidding for the past several years.
