AGENCY DROPS OUT OF MAZDA REVIEW
By Adnews Staff
Just three agencies are battling for the Mazda Motor of America $240 million(US) account. Deutsch has dropped out of the review, leaving Ogilvy & Mather of New York, W.B. Doner & Co. of Southfield, Michigan and GSD&M of Austin, Texas vying for the business. The incumbent on the business is Foote, Cone & Belding's Santa Ana, California office. The agency resigned the business earlier this year because its holding company, True North Communications of Chicago, bought Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon & Eckhardt, a Chrysler Corp. agency. In Canada, True North owns Bozell Worldwide and FCB Canada, both of Toronto, but the two operate independently. Mazda in Canada says its too early to say how the review will affect this country. Currently, FCB handles the car maker's advertising.
