COMPUTER MAKERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DVD TECHNOLOGY

Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston added a new computer to its Presario line of machines this week that uses digital video disk technology. Called the Presario 4840, the computer features a 2X DVD-ROM drive, 266 MHz Intel Pentium II processor, 3D graphics, backlit easy access buttons with one-touch Internet access and a 56K modem. The machine is encased in a black tower design. It is available worldwide. In Canada, radio and newspaper advertising support the launch of the 4840. The ads were created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. will introduce a notebook computer to the North American market next month that features digital video disk technology as well. Called the ThinkPad 770, the machine features a 14.1-inch screen, 3-D surround sound and an Intel Corp. 233 MHz Pentium MMX Mobile Module microprocessor. In Canada, the ThinkPad 770 will be promoted using print ads created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
