MORE COMPUTERS TO BE LINKED TO THE INTERNET

The number of personal computers hooked up to the Internet will skyrocket 71% by the end of the year to 82 million, mainly in the business market, according to a study done by U.S.-based Dataquest Inc. By 2001, about 268 million computers will be linked to the 'net. This will lead to more sales of Internet products and services, which are expected to rise 60% by the end of the year to $12.2(US) billion. Sales last year were $7.5 billion(US). The market will reach $32.2 billion by 2001. The services market alone is expected to grow to $7 billion this year and jump to $29 billion by 2001. Businesses are using the Internet to connect offices all over the world and to sell products and services to consumers and partners.
