IBM LAUNCHES VOICE SOFTWARE

U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. introduced software to the North American market this week that allows users to dictate to their computers. Called ViaVoice, the program allows users to talk to their computers in a normal spoken voice. The product is geared to people who generate large or frequent amounts of text, on the job or at home, or those who are looking for an alternative to the keyboard. Users can enter text at up to 140 words-per-minute. In Canada, print advertising for ViaVoice will begin in the fall. Co-op ads with business partners will also be used. The print ads will be created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto. Goodman Communications of Toronto is doing PR.
