MEGATREND OFFERS 10 CENTS A MINUTE CALLS

Long-distance reseller, Megatrend of Calgary, launched a residential phone plan earlier this month where users can make calls for 10 cents a minute in their home area code. Under the home-based business plan, users can make calls anywhere in Canada and the U.S. for 13 cents a minute. Under the commercial plan, businesses can call in their home area code for 13 cents a minute, to neighboring provinces for 15 cents a minute and in the rest of Canada and the U.S. for 18 cents a minute. The plans will be promoted across Canada using door-to-door sales agents. Megatrend president Laurence Bartle told Adnews yesterday that advertising doesn't pay off for long distance resellers. Advertising is for the company's self-awareness, not to develop a customer base, he said. "It's got to be one-on-one or it doesn't work. PowerTEL Communications of Calgary has entered into a three-year agreement with Megatrend to supply wholesale long-distance services and prepaid products to Megatrand's customer base.
