CHAPTERS OPENS ANOTHER OUTLET
By Adnews Staff
Chapters Inc. opened another superstore this past weekend in Port Coquitlam, B.C. The store features over 100,000 titles plus a large selection of magazines, a multimedia section, writing instruments, audio books, CD-ROMs and a Starbucks coffee shop. The children's section is a store within a store, featuring its own CD-ROM terminals and colorful kid-sized seating. Regular storytime readings will be held several times a week. The outlet is the first Chapters store to feature a stone fireplace in the cafe. Print advertising supports the store's opening. Grand opening and continuity advertising is done by Bondo & Remer of Seattle. Event advertising for Chapters is handled in-house. Chapters is a Canadian owned book company created in 1995 by the merger of Coles and SmithBooks. It operates 13 Chapters book superstores in Canada, as well as the World's Biggest Book Store and 340 mall-based bookstores operating under the Coles, SmithBooks and The Book Company banners. Chapters is 41.8% owned by Canadian General Capital, 9% by a company owned by the chain's management and 20% by U.S.-based Barnes & Noble.
