COMPAQ INTRODUCES NEW BUSINESS MODEL

Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston launched the first phase of its new business model in North America this week that the company says will deliver the lowest total cost ownership. This first phase is called Built-to-Order, which will see computers built to the customer or reseller orders rather than being built in anticipation of demand. The first two products from this phase are the Deskpro 2000 and 4000. The computers will be promoted using print ads created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of New York. The agency's Toronto office will handle the Canadian media buy. The new business model is called the Optimized Delivery Model. The other two phases are the Channel Configuration Program and Configure-To-Order.
