SCOTT'S SELLS HOTEL BUSINESS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Scott's Hospitality has sold its U.K. business to British brewer Whitbread PLC for $390 million. The move makes Whitbread the third largest hotel operator in Britain. The 16 British Marriott hotels will be in Whitbread's hands, along with Marriott's development and operating rights in Britain. Scott's will invest the proceeds of the sale into its core fast food and school bus businesses. Whitbread also owns the Country Club chain of exclusive resorts and the Travel Inn chain for budget travellers. The company is best known for its regional beers such as Bodington's Bitter. It also makes Stella Artois lager under licence and owns a chain of Pizza Hut restaurants. Scott's has Kentucky Fried Chicken and Maunchu Wok restaurants in Canada.
