Hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky and a group of 10 North American investors are opening a chain of sports facilities in the U.S. Called Wayne Gretzky's Iceland, each will include multiple ice rinks, virtual reality games, fitness facilities, training clinics, a kids' lounge and a sports bar where the action on the rinks is shown on closed circuit television. One investor is Stadium Consultants International of Toronto. Officials were unavailable to comment on whether any complexes would be built in Canada. Construction for the first facility in Coral Springs, Florida will begin in the fall. A second Iceland will be built in Los Angeles in 1996. Edmonton-based PCL Construction Management will build the complexes.
