U.K GETS TOUGH ON TOBACCO

The United Kingdom's advertising and tobacco industries were dealt a blow recently when the new Labour government announced it will take a hard line on tobacco advertising and go as far as outlawing sports sponsorhips. The government did add that it will take some time for the law to take effect to give sporting events the time to look for other sponsors. The Tobacco Manufacturers' Association claims the industry has suffered a 40% volume decrease over the past 20 years and that marketing efforts do not boost sales, but allow tobacco companies to win market share from each other.
