CANWEST INKS DEAL WITH WIC

Winnipeg-based CanWest Global Communications Corp. has come as close as it can get to an Alberta TV station license. The broadcaster has signed a five-year deal with WIC Western International Communications of Vancouver that will see WIC buy all CanWest's programming for its two Alberta stations. In the past, WIC bought several of CanWest's most popular U.S. shows for Alberta, but did not pick up the lesser programs CanWest was sometimes obliged to buy to get the top shows. It also didn't buy some of the Canadian shows CanWest produced such as "Jake and the Kid" and "Traders." CanWest owns 15% of WIC.
