BLACK & DECKER UNVEILS NEW CLEANER

Black & Decker Canada Inc. recently released a large-scale version of its Dustbuster hand vacuum. Called the Floorbuster, the new cleaner is 1.2 metres tall and runs on two rechargeable VersaPak batteries. While the Dustbuster was intended for the cleaning of small areas, the Floorbuster is capable of cleaning whole rooms. Teresa Dowd, Black & Decker Canada's marketing manager, said in a release that Black & Decker consumer surveys showed people use their big vacuum cleaners less frequently than in the past. The Floorbuster is intended to fill the gaps between major cleanings. A national print campaign for the Floorbuster is set to begin this fall. Black & Decker handles its creative in-house, while Initiative Media of Toronto handles the Canadian media buy. Birchall & Associates Inc. of Mississauga, Ont. is coordinating Canadian PR for the Floorbuster.
