Canadian Food Inspection Agency conducts promotion

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has resumed an annual promotion called “Tree Check Month.” During August, the agency will encourage people to inspect the trees and plants in their yards and elsewhere for invasive insects and diseases. The initiative includes website content at <https://inspection.canada.ca> to educate people about pests specific to a location, symptoms of trees in poor health, how to report the presence of pests to the agency and how to prevent the spread of pests. Consumers can also participate in a “Plant Health Hero” challenge by completing an activity book and posting on social media.
“Healthy plants and trees are crucial for our food and agriculture industries, forestry sector and the environment,” said Paul MacKinnon, president of the agency. “As we celebrate ‘Tree Check Month,’ the Canadian Food Inspection Agency encourages everyone to protect these important resources by learning how to check the trees in your area for signs of invasive pests.”
