WIC PREPARES FOR COMPETITION

Vancouver-based WIC Western International Communications is gearing up for more competition in the B.C. market. The company announced last week that it will eliminate 51 jobs at its two B.C. TV stations, CHAN-TV in Vancouver and CHEK-TV in Victoria. In addition, 44 jobs at its Alberta TV stations will be cut. Toronto-based Baton Broadcasting Inc. will launch CIVT-TV in September. The company has hired Jonathan Festinger as senior vice-president and general manager of the station. He was most recently corporate secretary at WIC.
