P&G BUYS TAMBRANDS
By Adnews Staff
Procter & Gamble of Cincinnati has expanded its feminine protection market. The company has bought Tambrands of White Plains, New York for $1.85 billion(US). Tambrands makes Tampax tampons. Advertising for Tambrands is done by Foote, Cone & Belding of Chicago, while the agency's Toronto office handles Canadian media buying. Canadian public affairs associate director Rob Fichtner told Adnews yesterday the company hasn't decided yet if it will hire an agency for the Tampax brand, use one of its roster agencies or keep FCB. P&G makes Always and Whisper feminine pads. The deal is still subject to certain conditions, including approval by Tambrands' shareholders and regulatory clearance.
