iSTAR ENHANCES INTERNET SERVICE
By Adnews Staff
iSTAR internet inc. of Ottawa unveiled new software-based technology last week that the company says will give its customers better Internet access. It will also make it easier for iSTAR to form Internet service provider partnerships in communities not presently served by the company. Called ViP, the software works by creating redundant databases on several servers across the iSTAR network, allowing iSTAR customers to gain Internet access from more than one server. Previously users could only gain access by dialing up their local server. With the new system, iSTAR customers will be able to roam across Canada and access their Internet accounts without the added expense of long-distance charges. They'll also get more reliable service. If the first server they try to access is too busy, they'll be able to get onto the Internet through another server. The ViP software also allows independent Internet providers to give their customers access to iSTAR's network without paying major infrastructure costs.
