WESTERN AIRLINE EXPANDS SERVICE

Smithers, BC-based airline Central Mountain Air will be adding seven BC and Alberta destinations to its service next month. As of April 6, the airline will begin flights to Calgary and Grande Prairie in Alberta as well as Castlegar, Cranbrook, Dawson Creek, Nanaimo and Penticton in BC. Central Mountain had previously served 10 locations in BC and the Yukon Territories. The airline operates under a commercial, non-equity partnership with AirBC and Air Canada, so Central Mountain passengers can receive seamless service within the three airlines' network. CMA passengers can also accumulate Air Canada Aeroplan frequent flyer miles. Peter Byrnes, Central Mountain's marketing director, said the airline will be launching advertising to promote the extended service. However, he added that details of the advertising plan have not been finalized. The airline typically uses radio and print ads, Byrnes said. The airline handles its advertising in-house.
