Advocacy group begins online awareness campaign

Montreal-based advocacy group The Pan-Canadian Abolitionist Feminist Advocates has begun a national campaign intended to raise awareness of the issue of the sexual exploitation of women. The three-month campaign will run on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and will provide information about the benefits of the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act, a law aimed at sex purchasers, brothel owners and traffickers.
“Prostituted and trafficked women and girls long to be free from sex purchasers and traffickers,” said Megan Walker of the London Abused Women's Centre, a member of the group. “Their hope for freedom is often the only thing that keeps them alive. Decriminalizing the very industry that oppresses them destroys that hope and as such, their lives.”
