Pizza Hut begins 1 Byte Favourites promotion

Toronto-based Pizza Hut Canada has begun a promotion called “1 Byte Favourites.” For a limited time beginning March 16, the fast food chain will sell a collection of what it describes as “8-bit-style versions” of various Pizza Hut recipes. These are digital representations of pizza slices which are made unique using a form of blockchain technology known as non-fungible tokens. According to the purveyors of this technology, this arbitrary uniqueness will make previously infinitely reproducible digital works into rare collectables. The company will sell them online at <https://www.rarible.com/pizzahut>, releasing a new pizza slice each day at lunchtime. The collection is intended to raise awareness of an upcoming promotion during which Pizza Hut will sell selected real pizzas for $10.

“We're really excited to launch ‘1 Byte Favourites’ as an opportunity to give fans another way to get their hands on their favourite Pizza Hut recipes, even if it's virtually,” said Daniel Meynen, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut Canada. “It’s a fun way to deliver our favourites on an emerging platform where people can appreciate the perfect pan pizza forever.”
