GROUP CAMPAIGNING FOR EARLY EDUCATION

An alliance of public sector unions, early childhood educators and teachers is campaigning to save early childhood education programs in Ontario. The campaign went into high gear yesterday with a press conference at Queen's Park. Members of the alliance include the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care, the Ontario Teachers Federation and the Canadian Union of Public Employees. Downloading social services onto municipalities and provincial government cutbacks will spell the end of early education programs, the alliance believes. To make the public aware of the threat to early education, the group is launching a PR and advertising initiative. PR for the campaign will be handled in-house. Advertising will take the form of print ads in community papers. The ads were produced by Patricia Orwin Enterprises of Ottawa and then passed down to local chapters of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care for placement. The first series of ads ran in November. A second placement is scheduled for March and a third for May.
