Montreal-based Stingray Group has launched a new group of television channels and video-on-demand services in association with eight manufacturers of television set-top boxes. The services will be free to consumers and advertising supported. They will be operated in collaboration with Huawei globally, as well as Xumo, LG, Vizio, Samsung, TiVo Plus and Cliq Digital in the United States, as well as Izzi in Mexico. According to the company, the services have a potential worldwide audience of approximately 300 million. The content will consist of concerts, recorded music and karaoke channels.
“Stingray was born out of a passion for connecting fans to the music they love,” said Mathieu Péloquin, senior vice-president of marketing and communications at Stingray. “As we continue to grow our position as the leading provider of curated SVOD music content, we are also constantly driven to find new ways to generate revenue, and ad-supported services are an obvious choice. Today, I am especially excited to introduce free, ad-supported TV channels to drive profitability and connect with a bigger audience than ever.”
