Reel Canada readies CanFilmDay Live event

Toronto-based non-profit organization Reel Canada will conduct a promotion on April 22 called “CanFilmDay Live.” The initiative will coincide with National Canadian Film Day, which was established to recognize achievement in Canadian filmmaking. It will take the form of a four-hour interactive online livestream on YouTube and at <http://www.canfilmday.ca>. The content will consist of interviews with filmmakers, viewer-submitted short videos and additional activities. The livestream will take the place of 1,000 scheduled live film screenings which have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While there is a huge selection of pop-up home entertainment happening, we believe that Canadians are hungry for an opportunity to be part of something larger, and especially something Canadian,” said Jack Blum, executive director of Reel Canada. “It's a chance to come together and give each other a big virtual hug. We've been thrilled by the warm response our plans have received from filmmakers and community partners alike.”
