Menopause Chicks conducts social media campaign

Vancouver-based health advocacy group Menopause Chicks recently conducted a social media campaign called “Unlearn Menopause.” According to the organization, the campaign was intended to counter misconceptions about menopause and its effects on health. The effort consisted of a series of online videos addressing these misconceptions, posted on Facebook.

“The first step is not for women to learn about perimenopause and menopause,” said organization founder Shirley Weir. “The first step is for women to unlearn any outdated stereotypes and extreme depictions we’ve been seeing in media for decades. I’m not saying some women are not challenged through perimenopause and beyond. Many are, and we can learn to navigate these challenges by getting informed and building a strong health team. But if we don’t address all the stigma and negativity, women will continue to avoid getting informed.”
