National adds public affairs staff

National Public Relations of Toronto has appointed Ali Salam to the position of senior vice-president of public affairs. He will head the agency's public affairs practice in Toronto. Salam is the former chief of staff to the federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and the Minister of Democratic Institutions. He has also been director of policy at the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and International Trade, as well as manager of health promotion at the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Salam was also head of national multicultural outreach for the Office of the Leader of the Opposition of the Government of Canada and manager of the Ontario Liberal Party. He has also operated his own government relations consulting firm.

Tausha Michaud has been promoted to director of public affairs. She joined the firm in July as manager of public affairs. Prior to that, she was executive assistant to the deputy mayor of Toronto and acting chief of staff at the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.

D'arci McFadden has also been promoted to director of public affairs. She joined the firm in 2012 and was most recently a manager of public affairs.

Yash Dogra has joined National as a consultant in its public affairs practice. He was previously a government relations consultant at the Capital Hill Group.

Sajni Khera has also been hired as a public affairs consultant. She was most recently manager of corporate communications and government relations at the Greater Toronto Hotel Association. Prior to that, she was manager of Tourism Toronto and senior operations manager at the federal Ministry of Finance.
