YEAR2000 INCREASES AWARENESS EFFORT

The Year2000 Information Network stepped up its awareness campaign this month for the "Year2000 bug." The Toronto-based organization introduced a video to the worldwide market that talks about the seriousness and urgency of the Year2000 problem. Year2000 is also distributing 25,000 complimentary copies of the Year2000 Information report at major trade shows and via direct mail. Direct mail and Internet advertising to promote the video will begin in March. It will be done in-house. Year2000 is still considering hiring an agency to handle its direct mail, membership services marketing manager Robert Stewart told Adnews yesterday. Year2000 already has an agency in mind, but wouldn't give the name. The company will wait until it sees the results of its mailing in March before it makes a decision. The Year 2000 bug will affect computers because the machines may think its 1900 not the Year 2000. Systems that could be affected include those handling benefits, accounting, purchasing, pensions, inventory and sales and finance. The Year2000 Information Network acts as a go-between for business and Year 2000 bug consultants.
