U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. added models to its Aptiva S Series of home computers, and its PC 330 and PC 350 commercial computers. The new Aptivas became available last week, while the upgraded PC 330 and 350 will be released Jan. 31. The latest Aptiva additions, known as the Aptiva S80 and Aptiva S90 and the commercial desktops carry Intel's Pentium Processor with MMX technology, making them ideal for the latest 3D graphics and multimedia applications. IBM says that with the new chip, the Aptivas will deliver up to a 20% improvement on today's multimedia applications and at least a 40% improvement on applications designed for the MMX chip. Three MMX-designed software titles will be bundled with the new Aptivas. As the new models are introduced, they will be included into IBM's national print campaign. Ads for the Aptivas began appearing last week. Ogilvy & Mather (Canada) Ltd. of Toronto handles IBM's Canadian advertising. Goodman Communications Inc., also of Toronto, is handling Canadian PR for the new computers.
