SONY LOOKING AT SMALLER PICTURE
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Sony of Canada Limited has released a new, smaller version of the digital Handycam camcorder. Known as the DCR-PC7 Handycam Camcorder, the unit is passport-sized and features an LCD screen and viewfinder for better recording. The 2 1/2-inch LCD screen can be flipped out and rotated 270 degrees, allowing users to see exactly what they're capturing onscreen. The screen can also be used as a playback monitor, complete with sound from the camera's built-in speaker. Like all Sony digital camcorders, the unit comes with Sony's Digital Video Interface which allows for direct digital input and output. The camera's LP mode enables users to film for 90 minutes on a Mini-DV cassette, while the new flat cell InfoLITHIUM battery system communicates with the unit for precise power-remaining information, accurate to within one minute. Company officials could not be reached for comment on advertising plans. Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto handles PR for the camera.
