Norbord, a Toronto-based manufacturer of wood-based panels, has begun a contest promotion called "Thank a Framer." According to the company, the initiative is intended to recognize the construction workers who build the structures of houses and to encourage new entrants into the profession. The campaign includes an online video and a website at <http://www.thankaframer.com>, as well as social media activities. Visitors to the site can enter a draw for various prizes. As part of the campaign, Norbord will also donate US$100,000 to the Home Builders Institute to support its framer training programs.
"Our company recognizes and appreciates the contribution of framers to the home building industry," said Peter Wijnbergen, president and CEO of Norbord. "As part of our 'Thank a Framer' campaign, we are donating US$100,000 to the HBI which will go toward training and educating new construction professionals to help ease the labor shortages that are afflicting our industry. Norbord wants to celebrate the American framer and encourage others within the industry to recognize the significant contributions that framers make every day."
