Coates to retire from Hill&Knowlton Strategies

Michael Coates, president and CEO for the Americas at Hill&Knowlton Strategies, will retire from the firm next year. In the interim, he has taken on the position of global vice-chairman. In this position he will focus on client service and new business acquisition in Canada. Effective immediately, Canadian CEO Goldy Hyder, Latin American CEO Claudia Gioia and US CEO Beth Balsam are reporting directly to Jack Martin, the agency's global chairman and CEO.
Coates became CEO for the Americas two years ago. Prior to that, he was CEO of the company's Canadian division from 1995 to 2014.
"The job Jack asked me to do is largely done," said Coates "We have three superior leaders for the US, Canada and Latin America. So after much consideration, it is time for me to hang up my skates here at H&K. Sometimes you just know when it is time to step aside. I want to thank Jack for giving me the opportunity to take on such a dynamic role, and I am confident that with the talent that H&K has around the globe, this company will continue to be successful for many years to come."
