Credit Union Central begins My Credit Union Matters campaign

Credit Union Central of Canada has begun a social media campaign called "My Credit Union Matters." The national campaign encourages consumers to communicate their support of credit unions to federal policy makers in Ottawa. In particular, the campaign supports a proposed capital growth tax credit for credit unions. The campaign makes use of a website at <http://www.mycumatters.ca> which allows visitors to send a message to the Minister of Finance and their local members of Parliament. The site also encourages visitors to share their own experiences with credit unions via social media sites.

"It used to be said that credit unions were the country's best kept secret, but we're not much of a secret anymore," said Martha Durdin, president and CEO of Credit Union Central of Canada. "This campaign is a demonstration of that. Policy makers are going hear from Canadians that credit unions matter, that they are different, and that those differences warrant different, not preferential, treatment from Ottawa."

Credit Union Central of Canada is the national trade association of the country's 320 credit unions.
