One Twenty Three West opens in Vancouver

A new communications agency called One Twenty Three West has launched in Vancouver. Its founders are Jeff Harrison, former design director at Rethink, Scot Keith, founder of Kommunity, and Rob Sweetman and Bryan Collins, previously creative directors at Cossette Vancouver. According to the company, the business model will involve the senior staff handle strategy, writing, art direction and design, while outsourcing other functions on a per-project basis. This is intended to make the firm more nimble, responsive and efficient. "The movie business was in a similar situation 90 years ago," said Keith. "Everything was in-house, everyone they needed was on staff. The model was impossible to sustain and restricted creativity. Now they assemble the best actors, directors and crew for every job." The agency's first clients include Canadian Pacific and Saxx Underwear.
