Passage: Omer Girard

Omer Girard, founder of Quebec cable television company Transvision Magog in 1957, has died at the age of 93. Girard went on to found five other cable companies between 1960 and 1967. He was a co-founder of the Canadian Cable Television Association and became president of the organization in 1968. In 1973, Girard merged his cable operations with Cablestrie, which was later acquired by Cogeco. He founded the Association des câblodistributeurs du Québec in 1973 and served as president until 1977. He was also the founding president of the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Magog. In 2012, the Telecommunications Hall of Fame gave Girard its Neotelis Award for lifetime achievement.
