Trend Micro begins What's Your Story contest

Ottawa-based computer security company Trend Micro has begun a contest promotion called "What's Your Story?" in the US and Canada. The contest encourages students to submit short videos depicting the ways in which they have used the Internet in their creative work. This is the fourth year the company has conducted this promotion. Entries must answer the question, "What does the good side of the Internet look like?" Submissions will be accepted until April 16 at <http://whatsyourstory.trendmicro.com>. Videos will be judged on the basis of quality, the number of online views and public ratings. Two grand prizes of $10,000 will be distributed; one to an individual filmmaker and one to an educational institution. Winning entries may also be used for educational programs or events. The company has also begun a European version of the contest in Ireland. "A lot of the messages we hear and give our kids about technology use is focused on fear, safety, and what not to do," said Lynette Owens, global director of Trend Micro's Internet Safety for Kids and Families program. "As adults we live in a world filled with technology we didn't grow up with. Kids are growing up knowing nothing else. What better way to showcase the good that happens with technology then to get out of the way and let them show us?"
