COMPANY LAUNCHES SAVE THE BIRDS CAMPAIGN

Brookfield LePage Management Ltd. of Toronto is trying to stop birds from flying into buildings in Toronto. The real estate management services company launched its Safe Flight program this week using manuals, newsletters, signs and PR in the buildings it manages in Toronto, including BCE Place. The manuals, newsletters and signs were done in-house. PR is being done by The Communications Group of Toronto. The program focuses on ensuring that lights are turned off from dusk until dawn during peak migration seasons in the spring and fall. The program asks tenants, employees and visitors to seek alternatives to bright night light by substituting lower wattage lighting, to choose alternatives to overhead lighting such as desk lamps and to draw blinds or curtains whenever possible. "Up to 100 species of migrating and insect-eating birds collide with more than 150 lit buildings, towers and signs in downtown Toronto each night," Brookfield eastern Canada group president John Campbell says in a release.
