CANADIANS VISITING GROCERS MORE OFTEN

Canadians are visiting grocery stores more often and convenience stores less, according to a survey by ACNielsen of Markham, Ont. Over a 36-week period ending March 4, 1996, Canadian households made an average of 66.5 trips to the grocery store, up from 66 from last year. Meanwhile, trips to convenience stores fell to an average of 15.2, down from 16 in 1995. Other outlets for food were visited 19 times, up from 18.4. Drug store visits fell to 18.9 from 19.2, while mass merchandisers were visited 16.1 times, up from 15.4. Warehouse club stores were frequented 7.1 times on average, rising from 6.2 last year.
